Founded in the fall of 2000, Backfield in Motion began as a
non-profit after-school program that included year-round football
leagues made up of eight teams from
the same number of separate local community centers. Nearly 200 fifth- and sixth-grade boys participated that first year, with
the league providing free equipment and transportation for all.
Realizing the importance of education and understanding the
overwhelming need to better our youth, Backfield in Motion quickly
evolved from simply 'after-school homework help' into After-School
Enrichment, Saturday School, Summer Learning Academy, life-skills
training and character-education.
In addition to academic enrichment, life-skills training and
character education are strong focal points of our program
with emphasis on responsibility, goal-setting, sportsmanship,
self-control, teamwork, smart moves, leadership and perseverance.
The deep one-on-one connection Backfield in Motion makes with its
students is the driving force behind the success of our programs, as our
youth program coordinators, teachers, staff and volunteers are committed to excellence
with a clear vision and passion for delivering outstanding results for
our inner-city boys.
Indeed, over the past eight years, Backfield in Motion has made an impact in
the lives of hundreds of our participants, and we look forward to
realizing more successful outcomes.
