Fall Football
In conjunction with Metro Parks, we sponsor a four-team football league organized around Nashville's community centers.
Regular games are played at the community center fields each week, while Jamborees and Championship games are played at Montgomery Bell Academy and Vanderbilt Stadium.
Teams include the Easley Raiders, East Park Buccaneers, South Inglewood Bengals, and West Park Vikings.
Winter Basketball
As with football, Backfield in Motion works in concert with Metro Parks and its community centers to keep the boys active and involved.
A basketball clinic, conducted by Backfield in Motion staff, is held during the Christmas school break. Games are held from January to February each Saturday and are played at the community centers.
Teams include the South Inglewood Blazers, West Park Lakers, Easley 76er’s, and the East Park Nuggets.
Spring Baseball
The baseball league is modeled after the football and basketball leagues, with games held at each of the four community centers. Weekly games and practices run from April to May.
Totally Free
All Backfield in Motion athletic programs are completely free to participating students. Children who participate in the program pay no application or sign-up fees. Backfield in Motion provides all equipment for each participant free of charge.
Expert Coaching
Backfield in Motion’s coaching staff is experienced and prepared.
Every coach played varsity sports in high school and/or college, attended or graduated from college and is chosen based upon his own academics, athletics and, especially, his character. Through sports, coaches help kids understand life lessons like what it means to succeed, fail, and how to deal with setbacks and frustration. Backfield's coaches create personal relationships with BIM youth that hopefully lead to continued participation in our programs and activities, keeping the boys on a positive path and away from the temptations of the street.
Great Fun Close to Home
Backfield in Motion’s sports leagues' regular season games are played at Nashville’s community centers. Free food and beverages are provided for the players, as well as transportation to and from “away” games.
Play Special Games in Exciting Places
Backfield in Motion's participants get to experience the excitement of playing their favorite sports in thrilling locations, including football under the lights on Thursday nights, Jamboree and Championship Games at Montgomery Bell Academy and All-Star Games at Vanderbilt University.
Our Mission: Backfield in Motion is a non-profit organization that combines academics and athletics to inspire inner city boys to reach their maximum potential in order to become significant contributors to society.
